Three figures in the traditional dress of Yania, an Ottoman province centered on Ioannina in today's northwestern Greece, stand together in this studio portrait: a wealthy man, a woman, and a child from a well-off household. The captions identify them as Arnaout, the Ottoman term for Albanians. This photogravure reproduces plate XVIII from *Les costumes populaires de la Turquie en 1873*, a costume album by Hamdy Bey and Marie de Launay, with photographs by the Istanbul studio of Sébah. Its captions appear in French and Ottoman Turkish.
