Niagara Falls drew photographers for generations, and this 8 by 6 inch glass negative is one of the National Photo Company's views of it. The company, a Washington, D.C., commercial firm active in the early twentieth century, produced travel and landmark images for sale as prints and postcards. The date of 1919 or 1920 is inferred from neighboring negatives, and the title comes from notes on the sleeve that have not been independently verified. Herbert A. French gave the plate in 1947. The streaks and blemishes visible on it are typical of glass negatives whose coatings have deteriorated with age.
