Edison appears in or beside an automobile, with a large house rising behind him, in this stereograph dated about 1907. The caption card names a son, but the question mark signals an unconfirmed identification, so the second figure should be read as uncertain. Underwood & Underwood issued many cards like this one for viewing through a stereoscope at home, and such views helped make well-known inventors familiar to the public. By 1907 the automobile was still a novelty for many families, which is part of what makes this pairing of machine and mansion worth a closer look.
