Edison appears with an automobile and a large house in the background, and the caption leaves open whether the younger man beside him is his son. The stereo card was issued around 1907 by Underwood & Underwood, a firm that sold paired photographs meant to be viewed through a stereoscope for a three-dimensional effect. By then the automobile was still a novelty, and Edison, famous for the phonograph and electric light, was widely associated with new machinery. The card's caption is tagged under automobiles, which suggests the car was the main subject.
