Shown as a bust-length portrait turned to the left, this 1926 image captures Aldous Huxley at a time when he was building his reputation as a novelist and essayist in Britain. He came from a family of scientists and writers, being the grandson of the biologist Thomas Henry Huxley, and his satirical wit later produced *Brave New World* in 1932. Photographic portraits of writers like him circulated widely in the magazines and newspapers of the 1920s, so the picture offers a useful glimpse of how literary celebrity was presented in that decade.
