Calvin Coolidge, who served as the 30th president from 1923 to 1929, is the subject of this 1927 view of his new automobile in Washington, D.C. The print comes from the National Photo Company Collection, a body of work by a commercial studio that recorded everyday life, public events, and official occasions in the capital during the 1910s through the 1930s. Automobiles were becoming a common part of American life in the late 1920s, and photographs like this one show how the presidency was adopting the new technology. The catalog date is bracketed, so the exact day the picture was taken is not confirmed.
