Three monkeys take the place of the priest and his sons in this parody, struggling in the coils of a serpent as the marble figures do in the original. The print satirizes the Laocoon group, the ancient sculpture unearthed in Rome in 1506 that became a touchstone for Renaissance artists. Niccolò Boldrini cut it as a chiaroscuro woodcut after a design by Titian, using several blocks to build shaded tones alongside the outlines. The sheet's vertical fold at the center and its Le Blanc catalog number mark it as a documented impression from the Bradley Collection.
