A procuress, a go-between who arranges encounters for others, gives this 1965 lithograph by the Mexican artist José Luis Cuevas its title, and the word "meat" suggests a blunt view of the trade in bodies. The sheet is number 13 in an edition of 20, signed on the stone and again in pencil, and its blind stamp points to the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles, which helped revive fine-art lithography in the United States in the early 1960s. Cuevas often drew on the satirical etchings of Goya, and his distorted, grotesque figures reflect that influence.
