Mayo's Cut Plug, a chewing tobacco sold by the Mayo Tobacco Works of Richmond, Virginia, is the brand named on this 1895 card. In the 1880s and 1890s, tobacco makers packed baseball cards into their products or offered them as premiums, and N300 is the number later assigned to this issue in the American Card Catalog. The card bears a caption reading "Russie," but it has no printed title, so Library staff devised the one used here. It belongs to the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards in the Prints and Photographs Division.
