Here Roosevelt appears under the military title "Colonel," a name he kept from leading the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War of 1898. The print is dated late summer 1910, a few months after he returned from his African expedition, which drew wide press attention. Its copyright registration suggests it was issued for publication, the kind of image newspapers used to follow his travels. The Africa subject tag ties it directly to that journey.
