Nicholas Longworth of Ohio and Representative John Quincy Tilson of Connecticut are pictured together in this image, recorded on February 21, 1925. The National Photo Company produced large numbers of pictures of officials, visitors and events in Washington during the 1910s and 1920s, giving a detailed record of political life in the capital. Both men were active Republicans in the House during this period, so the photograph offers a glimpse of congressional leadership in the mid-1920s. The glass negative, a gift of Herbert A. French in 1947, shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coating, a common trait of glass plates of this age.
