Across the Detroit River, the rooftops of Windsor, Ontario, form the foreground of this view, with the towers of downtown Detroit rising beyond them. Boats on the water show how the river served as a working commercial route as well as a border between the two countries. The photograph was registered for copyright on December 12, 1929, near the peak of Detroit's skyscraper boom, when automobile wealth was reshaping the city's center almost year by year.
