A hand-colored lithograph of a Sauk and Fox war dance, its title crediting the painting to Peter Rindisbacher, the Swiss-born artist who recorded Native peoples of the northern plains and Great Lakes region in the 1820s. The stone was drawn by Corbould and printed by Charles Hullmandel in London, so the image passed through European printing shops before reaching viewers who had never seen the dance. Its costume and dress details offer a useful record of how these nations presented themselves to outside observers in the early 1830s.
