Titled "Le bon feu" and captioned "Noubliez pas ceux qui ont froid" ("Don't forget those who are cold"), this 1916 French poster appeals for warmth at a time when the war strained coal and fuel supplies. Jean-Louis Forain, a painter and caricaturist known for biting social satire, signed the design, giving a pointed moral tone to what was essentially a charity appeal. The campaign's 1914-1915-1916 dating shows it was a continuing effort, one of many wartime posters asking civilians to give and to share hardship with those who had less.
