Joe Weber appears in costume as Disch, the role he played in this 1908 burlesque of *The Merry Widow*. The show drew its plot and tunes from Franz Lehar's operetta, which had premiered in Vienna in 1905 and became a sensation on American stages, and it was presented under Henry W. Savage's arrangement with Julian Mitchell directing and George V. Hobart writing the book. Weber, half of the comedy team Weber and Fields, was known for broad parody, and the bold color lithograph, printed by Strobridge from a photograph by Frank C. Bangs, shows how star portraits carried theatrical advertising of the era.
