Marseille's harbor, one of France's busiest Mediterranean ports, is the setting for this 1920 color lithograph by Auguste Leroux, which calls on viewers to "get to work" and subscribe to the French loan. The poster was issued by the Société Marseillaise de Crédit, a Marseille bank, to encourage savings for the national government in the years after the First World War, when France faced heavy debts and the costs of rebuilding. Its pairing of the working port with the duty to invest in the state shows how financial posters of the period tied everyday labor to national recovery.
