Its slogan, roughly "the blood of the fallen permits no forgetting, sterility, or betrayal," sets this poster apart from the many Civil War designs that simply urged enlistment. Issued by the Vicesecretaría de Educación Popular, the propaganda office of the Falange-led Nationalist side, it is dated between 1936 and 1939 and pairs cemeteries with military personnel, reflecting the cult of the dead the regime promoted. Offset lithography allowed such posters to be printed in quantity for display in towns under Nationalist control, where the three nouns in the title framed remembrance, fertility, and loyalty as duties owed to the fallen.
