This tall color lithograph advertises the third annual tour of the Herrmann the Great Company, with Leon and Adelaide Herrmann at the head of the bill. The poster's promise of "startling sensations and illusions" and its listed subject of demons reflect the spectacle that drew crowds to late nineteenth-century American stage magic. Leon Herrmann was one of the best-known magicians of his day, and Adelaide, his wife, performed in the company and later became a headliner in her own right. Printed in New York around 1898, the poster shows how touring shows used large, vivid lithographs to fill theater fronts and city hoardings.
