Billed as "the premier equilibrist and juggler of the world," the performer Eldora appears in this large color lithograph, printed in Detroit by the Calvert Litho. Co. around 1892. Posters like this one were a core part of the advertising for late nineteenth-century variety stages, when touring acts moved from town to town and relied on big, eye-catching sheets to draw audiences to theaters and halls. Equilibrists, who balanced on wires, poles, or other unsteady supports, and jugglers were staples of these programs, and the poster's sweeping claims of supremacy reflect the boastful style typical of show advertising of the day.
