Leon the Wizard" is the billing on this tall color lithograph, which promoted a performer whose act centered on juggling and stage illusion. Printed by the Gillin Litho. Co. of New York, it probably dates to the 1890s, when touring magicians and variety acts relied on large, eye-catching posters to draw crowds to theaters and halls. Posters like this were printed in quantity and pasted up on walls and fences, so surviving copies are uncommon. The sheet belongs to the McManus-Young Collection, a group of American theatrical posters now held by the Library of Congress.
