A portrait of Admiral Sir Peter Parker, the Royal Navy officer whose fleet failed to take Charleston in June 1776, when American defenders under William Moultrie beat back the attack on the palmetto-log fort on Sullivan's Island. Birrell engraved the plate, and J. Fielding published it in London on March 10, 1786, about three years after the war ended. Printsellers of the period often issued likenesses of officers who had recently been in the news, so the sitter's public reputation likely shaped its sale. The title also credits the engraver, Birrell, which was a common practice of the time.
