This 1936 poster promotes a water carnival that combined music, dancing and singing, and the record ties it to New York State in the 1930s. It was printed by silkscreen under the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, which produced inexpensive posters to publicize concerts, plays, classes and community events during the Depression. Water carnivals of that era were popular summer gatherings, and the program's bold flat colors were designed to catch the eye of passersby.
