A fifty-cent admission ticket is printed right on this 1917 lithograph, which sends visitors to the Grand Central Palace in New York from November 24 to December 12. The venue was one of the city's largest exhibition halls, so the poster was advertising a public show rather than a single event. Its subject headings tie it to the economic and social side of the First World War in the United States, when the federal government raised money through Liberty Loan bond drives and other war funds. Posters like this one used bright color and patriotic imagery to draw crowds and encourage Americans to take part in the war effort at home.
