The British tank labeled "Britannia" in the caption sets this poster apart from other wartime art. Tanks first went into action with British forces at the Somme in September 1916, and their novelty made them a striking image for a public trying to picture a new kind of warfare. Mueller paired that machine with a slogan about the world's greatest spectacle and greatest need, and the poster's subject tags tie it to the war bond campaigns that helped finance American participation after 1917.
