A 1917 color lithograph built around a quotation attributed to General John J. Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Forces, praising an organization whose work he calls unmatched "since the world began." The record's title does not name that organization, so the poster's appeal rests on Pershing's endorsement. Wartime posters like this one were a common way to rally American support for relief and welfare work connected to troops in France. At 98 by 63 centimeters, it shows how much of the home-front effort in World War I depended on public endorsements from military leaders.
