General John J. Pershing's endorsement, cabled from France on August 21, 1918, anchors this poster, which reprints his praise for the Y.M.C.A.'s work for the army and his call for further financial support. The poster advertised the United War Work Campaign, held November 11 to 18, 1918, a joint fundraising drive for several wartime welfare agencies. The campaign opened on November 11, the same day the Armistice was signed, which gave its appeals an unexpected urgency. The print combines halftone and letterpress work credited to Alco-Gravure of New York and S. J. Wauk of Paris.
