Albert Shaw (1857-1947) was an American editor and political scientist who helped make the *Review of Reviews* one of the most widely read monthly magazines of the Progressive Era. In this seated, three-quarter length portrait from about 1907, he turns slightly to the left, a pose typical of formal studio portraits of public figures in the early 1900s. The print carries a U.S. Copyright Office notation, which shows it was submitted for copyright registration, a common way such portraits entered national collections.
