Few sculptors of the Florentine Renaissance left as many public works in one city as Bartolomeo Ammanati, who lived from 1511 to 1592. He is best known for the Neptune fountain in the Piazza della Signoria and for rebuilding the Ponte Santa Trinita over the Arno in the late 1560s, and he worked in marble and architecture for the Medici court. This engraving by G. Batt. Cecchi shows how his likeness was copied in print for viewers beyond Florence, though the record gives no date for the plate.
