This color halftone served as the cover of a Denver viewbook, published by The Williamson-Haffner Co. around 1907, that retold Niagara Falls through the lens of Indigenous legend. Its subjects point to a sacrifice story tied to the falls, a tale that by then had been repeated for decades in tourist literature and was often built around a young woman offered to the waters. Publishers like Williamson-Haffner produced colorful souvenir booklets like this one for travelers and armchair readers, so the cover was meant to sell a romantic idea of the place as much as a view of it. The image is worth noticing for how it blends the falls' natural power with the stylized storytelling of the period.
