This stereograph shows an "ice mountain" at Niagara Falls, a winter formation that built up at the base of the falls as spray froze onto rocks and ledges. Published around 1900 by the American Stereoscopic Company, the card was meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, which fused two side-by-side photographs into a single three-dimensional scene. Stereoviews of Niagara were among the most popular souvenirs of the period, and ice formations like this one drew tourists who came to see the falls in winter. The card's copyright notice names R.Y. Young, the photographer or copyright holder credited on the print.
