The dining saloon of the North German Lloyd mail steamer *König Albert* is the focus here, not the ship's exterior that appears in so many views of the line's fleet. The steamer carried the imperial mail on routes that linked Germany with the Americas, so its interiors were meant to show passengers and the public the comfort of a German liner. This photochrom was made by the Photoglob company in Zürich, whose process layered several lithographic stones to produce color prints, and the Detroit Publishing Company sold such views to travelers and collectors in the early 1900s. The room's long tables and formal fittings reflect how the great Atlantic liners of that era treated dining as a central part of the voyage.
