An older woman climbs alone up a winding mountain path toward her home, with streams and trees along the way, in this woodcut dated 1811. The two-page format suggests it may have been printed as part of an illustrated book, a common form in Japan during the Bunka era (1804-1818). Woodcut was the main method of reproducing both pictures and text in the Edo period, so the carved outlines and flat areas of color are worth a close look. The record does not name the artist or the book.
