The record dates this glass negative to May 31, 1923, during the years when Music Week was promoted across the United States as a time for communities to celebrate singing, playing, and listening to music. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio known for its large output of news and street pictures in the early twentieth century, made the negative, though the title on it comes from unverified data, so the exact event is not confirmed. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and other blemishes from deterioration of the original coating are visible, and these flaws are worth noting when judging the image's detail.
