A battalion of cadets marching in review at West Point, New York, is the subject of this glass negative, which the Detroit Publishing Company catalogued around 1905. The United States Military Academy has held formal parades on its grounds above the Hudson River since the nineteenth century, and these ceremonies were a showcase for the discipline and precision that the school taught its future officers. The company's photographers traveled widely to document American scenery and public life for postcards and promotional albums, and scenes like this one reflect the national pride attached to the academy.
