A portrait of Prof. Frederick Belding Power, a chemist known for his work on plant chemistry and pharmaceuticals, is recorded here with the date September 25, 1922. The title comes from data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the Library of Congress notes that this detail has not been independently verified. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that worked from about 1906 to 1936, produced many portraits and news pictures on glass plates like this one. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library in 1947. The record also points out streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of the original coating, which are visible in the image.
