This glass negative carries the name Fred'k J. Cox on its sleeve, a title the National Photo Company applied in 1921, though the Library of Congress notes that the attribution is unverified. The negative is dated September 7, 1921, and was given to the Library by Herbert A. French in 1947 as part of the National Photo Company's large body of work, much of it made in Washington, D.C. The streaks and blemishes across the plate come from natural deterioration of the original coatings, so they reflect the negative's age rather than the photographer's choices.
