Titled *Stadtbruecke* (City Bridge), this 1909 etching is numbered 3 and signed and dated in pencil by its maker, Max Pechstein. Pechstein made it during his years with Die Brücke, the Dresden group of German Expressionist artists he helped found in 1905. The bridge subject fits the group's interest in bold line and everyday urban scenes. The title comes from a dealer's invoice rather than the artist's own inscription, a detail worth keeping in mind when reading its early catalog history.
