Bladensburg, a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland, sits where the branches of the Anacostia River meet, so it has long been exposed to high water. This glass negative, dated January 18, 1926, records the town during a flood. It was made by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented news events and local scenes in the 1910s and 1920s, and Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library of Congress in 1947. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from deterioration of the original coating rather than from the scene itself.
