The Brighton Beach Hotel was a resort hotel on the Brooklyn shore next to Coney Island, drawing visitors who wanted seaside air and a quieter stay than the amusement district offered. This c1904 print, copyrighted by the photographer A. Loeffler of Tompkinsville, Staten Island, records the hotel and its beachfront during the years when the area was a major summer destination for New Yorkers. The caption card, which the library notes is unverified, also lists bathing beaches, hotels and geography as subjects, a reminder of how the resort life along this coast was documented in the early 1900s.
