A color poster from the 1930s that features children, a subject that distinguishes it within the Rural Electrification Administration's public relations material. The REA was created in 1935 as part of the New Deal to extend electric service to farms and small communities that private utilities had largely bypassed, when only about one farm in ten had power. The poster is credited to Beall, and it was meant to build public support for the program. Posters like this one stressed how electricity could lighten farm work and improve rural family life.
