*Power for defense* casts rural electrification as part of the national defense effort, a theme its catalog record links to bombers. The Rural Electrification Administration, a Department of Agriculture agency founded in 1935, was created to bring power lines to farms and small towns that private utilities had largely skipped. By the early 1940s, those rural lines were also supplying energy that the government considered vital to war production, and the poster makes that link directly. Credited to Beall, it shows how federal agencies promoted New Deal programs as the country moved toward wartime mobilization.
