Three glass negatives make up this view of the St. Johns River at Jacksonville, Florida, with its piers and wharves running along the water. The set was originally a four-part panorama, and the right-center section is no longer in the collection, so the surviving frames show only part of the riverfront. The Detroit Publishing Company made the images sometime between 1900 and 1915, when it sent photographers across the country to document towns and sold the results as travel and souvenir views. Jacksonville, a busy river port, was a natural subject for that work.
