Unlike most Currier prints of the 1840s, this c1847 lithograph carries its title in two languages: the English "Jesus and the Twelve Apostles" and the Spanish "El Señor y sus disipulos," spelled as it appears on the sheet. The Spanish line suggests the publisher hoped to reach buyers who read Spanish, a notable choice for a New York firm better known for English-language scenes. Like many of Currier's inexpensive sheets, this one was hand colored, a finishing step that let the firm sell large numbers of affordable religious and popular images to households across the country. It was copyrighted in January 1848.
