The title on this glass negative, a Senate ladies' luncheon dated December 15, 1925, places it in the social life that surrounded Congress in Washington during the mid-1920s, when senators' wives often gathered for luncheons while Congress was in session. The National Photo Company, which recorded Washington news, society, and official events, made the negative, and it reached the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. The title comes from the company's own notation and has not been independently verified. Viewers should also notice the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which reflect deterioration in the original coating rather than anything in the scene.
