A September 23, 1925, luncheon in Washington honored Dr. Alfredo Zayas, who had recently completed his term as president of Cuba. The host, identified only as Dr. Rowe, was most likely Leo S. Rowe, longtime director of the Pan American Union, which promoted closer diplomatic ties among the American republics. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio, recorded many official gatherings of this kind on glass negatives. This example shows the streaks and blemishes that develop as the original coatings deteriorate over time.
