This glass negative shows Theodore Roosevelt, and its record dates it to April 2, 1918, though that date and the title come from notes written by the Bain News Service and have not been independently verified. By that spring Roosevelt was a former president and a outspoken critic of Woodrow Wilson's war policies, and all four of his sons were serving in the military. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, supplied newspapers and magazines with images of public figures like him, so its negatives remain a useful record of the period.
