Theodore Roosevelt's visit to Vienna is the subject of this glass negative, and its title credits a Princess Furstenberg, though the record does not confirm that attribution. Roosevelt toured Europe in 1910, after leaving the presidency in 1909, and drew large crowds and heavy press attention wherever he went. The negative comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold photographs of such visits to newspapers, so it reflects how quickly images of famous visitors reached print in that era.
