Caught as Theodore Roosevelt prepares to leave England for home, this glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection of news photographs made by the Bain News Service in New York in the early twentieth century. Roosevelt's travels abroad after leaving the presidency in 1909 drew heavy press attention, with reporters and crowds following him through Europe and Africa. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption information the news service wrote on the negatives or cards that has not been independently verified, so the exact moment should be read with that caveat in mind.
