Roosevelt's departure from a Berlin railroad station, with a crowd gathered around a car and mounted men nearby, is the scene this print captures. The record gives no date, and its title comes from caption data the Bain News Service supplied without verification. A Berlin stop fits Roosevelt's 1910 tour of Europe after he left the presidency, when he met Kaiser Wilhelm II and drew large crowds in several capitals. Bain's agency sold news photographs to newspapers, so pictures like this one were made for fast publication. The mix of motorcar and horsemen also shows the transition between carriage-era and automobile-era ceremony.
