Saranac Inn stood on the shore of Upper Saranac Lake, one of many lakeside hotels that drew city visitors into the Adirondacks around 1900. Rail service reached Saranac Lake in the late 1880s, and summer guests followed to fish, boat, and escape the heat of cities farther south. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its views of American resorts and scenery, made this large glass negative, so the picture captures a resort at the height of its popularity.
